Online Zoom Meeting - 7 pm

Incorporating LGBTQ+ Characters and Culture into your Writing - Evan Harbaugh

Writers often include a rich tapestry of characters to tell their stories and connect with their audiences. But writing believable characters involves more than adjectives: it also involves understanding at a deeper level. It's often challenging to get past stereotypes and into the true nature of characters as people. Evan Harbaugh will offer background into the LGBTQ+ community and how writers can use the characters realistically and add realistic texture to their stories and storytelling.

Evan G. Harbaugh has over ten years of experience working in the subfield of LGBTQ studies. Evan was a panelist on an LGBTQ training module for resident assistants at Penn State and interned at the Mazzoni LGBTQ Wellness Center, one of the first of its kind in the nation. He published an award-winning empirical research study linking gender roles and attitudes toward homosexuality in the Journal of Homosexuality. Evan ran an LGBTQ support group at Horizon House in West Chester and wrote the Gender Minorities Policy for Good Samaritan Shelter. In addition to these professional experiences, Evan has a lifetime of personal experience as a gay-identified man.
