FIREFLY DUSK
In the firefly dusk
on a tree-crowned road
I memorized the moment
our footfalls side by side
the stirring of the wind
the press of your arm against my skin
the potent undertow of love
Our time is rare and fleeting
but the fragments we’ve piece together
in the summer season
are deep and wide
I want
so much more
stay
stay forever
But winter and other loves
come between us
I hear commitment’s distant call
and know I will follow
I loosen my fingers from yours
slowly, carefully
and let you go
again
To this road, to this firefly dusk
I will stray
from time to time
the warmth of your voice in my mind
Here I’ll wrap sweet longing
like a cloak of velvet night
around me
and sense you close
but not quite
